Writer's Block: Multiple Personalities

Mar. 9th, 2012 | 03:35 am

Introduce all your different personalities.
Oh, this is fun.  No, I'm not going to list every character that I channel or every alternate screen name I used because I would be here for days.  Besides, although Sailor Bulma is a character I've channeled repeatedly, I don't consider her an alternate personality of my own, except if I decide to talk about the soaps.

Nangbaby is me.  Well, you know me.  If you don't, you'd better start reading my entries.  Now for my other personalities.

Sailor Steeler, the Sailor Scout of the Steelers, has a positive attitude and even when she loses, always wins.  The Anti-Nang in many respects, except both share the same stubborn determination.

Luminara is an angry "evil" light entity, with a personality that is essentially Nangbaby with more misandry, although unlike Nangbaby does have a soft spot for kids.  Yes, my evil persona is actually less evil than me.

Margaret "Don't Call Her Maggie" Smith is the warrior woman who takes no crap.  When I'm feeling punchy, she's driving my words.

Princess Andrea Utopia is the immature princess of a faraway land.  When I get silly, she's usually driving my posts.   Ironically, this means the comic character I never did get is actually writing the comic...which explains why it's so bad.

And, of course, there's one personality people don't see...she's a secret one.

Rini, like Sailor Bulma, is someone I channeled rather than an actual alternate personality. The difference between her and those above is that while I could imagine I'm her, she's more contained within the skits (and discarded fanfic ideas), even though I did use it as a screen name. Of course, this could be the distance of the me from the present trying and failing to remember the me of the past, but it's more likely that with pre-existing characters, I'm mindful of their canonical place. All of the above, on the other hand, are original characters, albeit mostly fan characters.

With say, Sailor Steeler, I actually sometimes feel like her to the point where I am her. There's less of a separation there. Obviously, I'm not deluded enough to think I have superpowers or anything like that, but yeah, her "voice" is more in sync with my own

I know what ya mean. I've had characters over the years in various formats who seemed to actually be alive inside of my head. Some of them are still there. Who knows, another 10 years I may even finish Godsword.

Too bad we can't plug magical devices in our brains and let the characters run free in the real world.

These characters exist because they're stronger than the universes I placed them in. I've given up on all my ideas. I realize now that I'll never amount to anything, so I might as well live out life fighting the bill collectors one at a time. Alternate personalities...ghosts of a future that can no longer come to pass, same difference.
