Mini Rant...

Sometimes, I write poorly. I misspell some words, leave out others, and overall my posts become an unintellgible maelstrom of mixed metaphors, typos, and broken grammatical rules. At least I try my best to put my words into sentences. Punctuation, capitalization, and an overall sense of communication through words are important to me. Am I being too harsh to expect other people to give the same effort? I'm not ranting about they're/their/there or you're/your, but the increasing laziness I see on a daily basis when it comes to trying to write messages on the Internet. I don't expect perfection, and I am willing to grant leniency to those who are learning English as a second language, but for everyone else at least TRY to write as though you have had a sixth grade education.

I agree.

I mean, proper grammar and spelling should add at least an ounce of credibility.

It's really the lack of trying that irks me. If someone makes mistakes, I won't hold it against them, and Internet lingo is okay within reason, but when their letters are composed of that "elite speak" nonsense that is DELIBERTATELY inserted into the message to make it sound "cool", then I have no pity on them.

I actually got a letter like that on my semi-professional e-mail account. Not from some unknown Internet user living in Timbuktu, but from a person whom I knew in real life.

Why?

Who knows? Sometimes people I know who otherwise write normally use the letter z instead of s, or do other little things that there is no reason to do but they do it anyway. And I'll admit, after 5 years of playing online games, I tend not to use capital letters very much. But outside the game, like when writing posts to message boards such as this one, I do try to make the post as grammatically correct as possible. The edit button is my friend. If one is available, I sometimes end up making 4 or 5 edits to a single post until everything is exactly the way I like it to read. If one isn't available, I suffer for all eternity in the hopes that nobody ever reads it.

Yeah, I've edited my entries countless times, and errors remain regardless of my efforts. I guess I notice everyone else's mistakes but my own.
