I hate being brought back down again..

Before I asked myself, "Why I should let that fact other people do things stop me?"

Now I've found the answer -- because they've done it better, faster, and before you ever thought of it, rendering any potential contribution meaningless. And if you think of doing something else, guess what? They've done that too.

Back to square one.

Why does someone else having done it first render your contribution meaningless?

Because...

It means that if I went ahead, then people would say, "Oh, that's just like XYZ," if they're charitable.

And even if the audience doesn't know that someone else had the same idea, I do, and I just can't go ahead knowing that. It feels like plagiarism or art theivery.

Hey, everyone else has done everything I've ever done, and I do things 'cause I wanna and not because it's been done before.

So you ought to do things because you wanna and not because it's done before, because we have so many freaking people on this planet and EVERYTHING has been done before.

But the thing is you do do those same things better, or different. If I see something, what's been done is usually very close to my intended expression, not the idea itself. It realy feels like a dream is crushed, because I wanted to be the person to say "That's my mark."

No, I don't. I am totally not as good as an artist as a TON of people out there. And I just draw because I think it's fun.

There is nothing out there that I do that is the best, or "better" or anything.

We all do what we all do, and because it's coming from you, that's how it's different. There's no way that thing is worse than someone else's.

No such thing as an original idea. You could even go a step farther and say there's no such thing as an original thought.

I agree, but there is an original collection, organization, and expression. We only have ten numbers in our numeral system, but they can be used in an infinite number of combinations. I don't have an infinite imagination, though, just one that gives me someone else's numbers.

michiru_mama makes an excellent point. F the rest of them. If you want to do something, just do it. F all what they think or do. What matters is that you are doing it your way, by your own personal volition.

...but the only way I can stay that way is to remain ignorant of the accomplishments of those around me. But as soon as I see someone else, it reminds me with cold certainty that I can't do it.

I guess that means you can't go to the bathroom if someone else does it better, huh. :(

No, but I often do take a long time in the bathroom for reasons unknown to me. As a result, I tend to go 8-12 hours without using the restroom on a regular basis, to compensate for my slowness (Right now, I seriously can't remember the last time I went...some time last night I do believe). If I tried I could probably go 24 hours without going.

I eat slower than most people do also (it takes me 20 minutes to eat a medium bowl of cereal), and as a result, I don't usually eat as much when I'm out amongst people. I pig out at home to make up for it, though.

What does it matter how long it takes?

How could you ever enjoy yourself if you think about how long it takes for someone else and compare it to how long it takes you to eat?

Why does it have to be a race of how to eat better, or eat faster, or anything?

I'd rather enjoy the food and take as long as I'd like.
